Canon 500d Review
The Canon 500D is a fantastic entry level DSLR for the serious enthuasist. Boasting 15.1 megapixels and full High Definition movie recording it out performs many of its rivals.
The Canon 500d is the latest camera from Canon and boasts a staggering 15.1 megapixel sensor. Not only is the camera breaking new ground with this it also has a full high definition movie facility.
Everything about the Canon 500D feels better than its immediate predecessors from the overall handling to the near flawless performance. You may be forgiven for thinking that the 500D is only a slight progession over the Canon 450D but this would be a mistake.
The Canon 500D is a near perfect camera for the serious enthuasist. The current price range is dropping all the time and it's possible to pick up a Canon 500D for between £500 and £600 including kit lens.
The Canon 500D does however still have some niggles and would probably not be suitable for the semi-pro or professional markets. For example the lack of an audio input for an external mic is a big problem in the HD movie mode as is the 20fps rate of full HD.
However, niggles aside, the Canon 500D performs amazingly at low light levels due to its increased ISO range and the body feels more solid than some of the earlier Canon EOS cameras.
If you already own some Canon lenses then the Canon 500D is definitely worth considering as an upgrade as it is compatible with all EF and EF-S lenses and with the rapidly decreasing price is there any reason not to upgrade?
